Company history
Bartech Marine Engineering was formed in 1987 by Gerald and Jane Barnett, combining Gerald's (Barney's) engineering expertise with Jane's legal and administration background.
Barney followed his passion for engineering completing an apprenticeship at Paxman Diesels in Colchester working in the developmental section, followed by several service engineer positions increasing knowledge of other engines and formed the grounding for the company. Seeing there was a need for a more customer focused company that could react to clients' needs, Bartech Marine Engineering was established.
From the beginning Bartech Marine began supporting Paxman Diesels directly including manufacturing many items for their YJ and RPH engine ranges. As well as working with the OEM, Bartech also supported vessels worldwide including navies, dredgers, ferries, tankers and more with both spares and repairs. Naturally we have expanded into other sectors which benefit from this type of service and are regularly working within offshore, traction and power generation companies.
Bartech currently operates from a modern, fully equipped workshop & office building, 10 miles south of Colchester. Easy access to motorway networks and air and sea ports means we can get parts and engineers to you quickly.
Equipment continuity
One of our specialist areas is providing sustainability for our clients, for engines still in regular use, that are no longer supported by the original manufacturer due to their age. Replacing these older engines can be a real challenge considering accessibility, performance differences as well as surrounding equipment, and is rarely a recommended option. As an alternative we have invested in our own in-house design and manufacturing team which use CAD systems linked to our own CNC machines alongside approved sub-contractors (most of who were involved in the original production of these parts). This gives us increased versatility to be able to provide you with solutions.
We upgrade and modify equipment wherever we can, even though many companies in our industry won’t or can’t help with older engines (which might then be scrapped). We like the challenge of keeping your engines alive.
We’ll track down rare parts from our varied and approved vendor list, re-engineer equipment, or provide alternative systems to keep your equipment operational.
Quality guaranteed
At Bartech, we perform all our work to the highest standards, and it all comes with our guarantee. When work is completed, we send you a full report, either via email or through our customer portal.
We’ve worked with some major companies around the world, and we know the level of quality you need. We are FPAL registered and ISO 9001 approved.
